Artificial Intelligence or AI refers to programs or machines that simulate tasks that typically require human intelligence. An AI system is a “machine based system that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infers, from the input it receives, how to generate outputs such as predictions, content, recommendations, or decisions that can influence physical or virtual environments” (OECD, 2024)

In 2025, the Innovative Strategies Task Force was convened to inform the ongoing approach, design, due diligence, and implementation around technology and innovation in Los Angeles Unified. The Task Force was composed of independent technical experts and Los Angeles Unified personnel with experience and expertise in areas such as technology, AI, education, cybersecurity, data privacy, and communications. Below are the Emerging Technologies Framework and AI position paper that the Task Force established so that the District can continue leveraging technology responsibly, safely, and effectively.
